Feedback anyone?

February 29th, 2008

Earle and Bryan worked super hard last night and put together a feedback system for the users. We definitely want to hear what features are important to you. Add your suggestions there, or browse the suggestions that others have submitted. You can vote them up or down with the mod arrows to the left. The suggestions with the most votes will be implemented first.

shoutouts

February 26th, 2008

Hey groovrs!  Have something funny you want to share or maybe you just wanna let your friends know what you’re doing? Send it to the groovr!

It can be anything, a picture of your crazy aunt dancing on the table, where the hot party is tonight or a rant about how much you hate LA drivers.  Simply send your message or photo to go@groovr.com and your shout will instantly be sent to all of your friends cell phone creating an on the go chat room.

Your friends can then respond not only to your shout but directly to anyone else who has joined the conversation.  When you want to stop receiving messages from a chat you’ve joined, just reply to any message from the chat with end.

So what are you waiting for?

Start shouting, we wanna hear it!

the new groovr

February 25th, 2008

well, after quite a bit of hard work from everyone involved, we’ve released the latest version of groovr. we all appreciate everyone’s feedback and suggestions in helping us build our feature set for this release.the most notable change in the groovr platform is the new model around submitting shoutouts, photos, and videos. this new platform creates on-the-fly virtual chat rooms, allowing all people who respond to a shoutout or a photo to participate in an actual chat. of course, you can contribute to the chat via the web, email, or your mobile phone. you can leave a specific chat at any time by simply replying with: ‘end‘ or ‘stop‘.secondly, we now group photos based on the location where they are taken. if you checkin to a location, then submit multiple photos, they will all show up together.in addition to technical enhancements, we’ve also gone through a major new design and layout for the site. we’ve tried to provide the customization everyone asked for while at the same time preventing the stylistic problems associated with customization that everyone wanted to avoid (like the eyesores on some sites we wont mention).we will be allowing users to upload their own background images as well once the dust settles — so stay tuned. thanks again to all of our awesome users and their great ideas!

A write up on mashable is fine too

February 19th, 2008

Mashable wrote a nice entry about the new groovr release. People seem to be having a lot of fun with it and adding lots of friends. groovr screenshotWhat I really love is the ability to customize the backgrounds. There are lots of choices now and I know we’re going to be adding some more in the coming weeks, so get ready for that.

what’s wrong with this picture?

February 18th, 2008

sleep deprivation can be frustrating to the point of fatal hilarity for developers.take for example, the frustrating and embarrassing extraneous quotation or semicolon.  generally speaking, a missing or extra quote usually results in a syntax error preventing any actual code execution. accidentally quoting an argument on the other hand, can result in some pretty random stuff.

geocode this!

instead of referencing an in scope object, we’re passing the literal string "this" into a geocoding function which is calculating latitude and longitude that is used to display inline maps on our website.obviously, this was meant to reference an in scope object, and not be a string literal.

go figure, there is an actual place called this:

if anyone can recommend a good flat panel TV repair man, it’d be greatly appreciated.fyi: it’s astonishing to see some of the things that actually geocode: go, asd, crap, …

A blog?

February 7th, 2008

We’ve got a blog here and once the new groovr launch is complete, I’m sure it will be full of awesome treats. For now we’re just testing to make sure the blog works. The site is going live on February 18th and until then Earle and Bryan are working like crazy. Asteroids, anyone?
